Wheat Sown in 244.12 Lakh Hectares;
Acreage up by over 4 Lakh Hectare
KHARIF SOWING IS PICKING UP IN DIFFERENT STATES

 

   According to the latest information received from the field, sowing of rabi crops has picked up. Wheat has been shown in 244.12 lakh hectare against 240.10 lakh hectare last year on this date, representing an increase over the acreage of last year.  Total wheat acreage is 4.02 lakh hectare higher than the area sown during the corresponding period last year. Higher coverage has been reported from Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Chhatisgarh. 

 

 Rice transplanting is in progress in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Odisha.  The total area under rice is 2.05 lakh hectare against 2.26 lakh hectare during the corresponding period of last year. 

 

Pulses have been sown in 129.49 lakh hectare as on today.  Higher area has been reported in gram in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan. Less coverage area has been reported from Maharashtra and Karnataka mainly due to dry weather condition.

 

Total area under oilseeds cultivation is reported to be 75.56 lakh hectare against 81.52 lakh hectare last year.
