Consultative Committee Meeting of Social Justice & Empowerment Meets
Efforts will be made to Mordenize and Upgarde ALIMCO says Shri Wasnik
The Union Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment Shri Mukul Wasnik has said that his Ministry will extend all support for modernization and up gradation of present manufacturing of Artificial Limb Manufacturing Corporation of India(ALIMCO) during 12th Five Year Plan. He was addressing a meeting of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee attached to the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment here today.

Chairing the Meeting, Shri Wasnik said that efforts must be intensified for Research &Development activities and funding should not be the problem while carrying out activities. In this context, he expresses his concern on production of ALIMCO which remain stagnant during last three years. Referring to decline of employees’ strength at ALIMCO, the Minister asked ALIMCO to look into the matter to improve the situation.

Participating in the discussion, the Members raised the issue of disable people facing problem in getting Disability Certificate. Shri Wasnik informed the members that the Person with Disability Rule have been amended and simplified. The amended rules enable a simplified and decentralized procedure for issue of disability certificate. He said, Disability Certificate can now be issued by a single doctor in respect of obvious disabilities at the level of Primary Health Center (PHCs)/Government Medical Practitioner, Community Health Centers and Hospital at the Sub Divisional Level. He stressed the need for creating greater awareness and publicity in this regard.

A Presentation was made on the schemes and programmes of the ALIMCO and Members were informed about various initiatives taken by the Corporation in recent past.

The Members who attended the Meeting included Sh. P.L. Punia who is also the Chairperson of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes; and Sh. Thangso Baite.
