Asymmetry in assets holding Pattern
The ‘India Human Development Report 2011, published by the institute of Applied Manpower Research has reported that top 5 percent of the households in India owned 38 percent of total assets while bottom 60 percent of households owned 13 percent of total assets based on the National Sample Survey (NSS) for the year 2002-03.

The Indian economy has been experiencing high growth rate consistently in the recent past, but the impact of this high growth on asset holding position of the household has not been assessed. The National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) has not conducted any further survey on Household’s asset holding after 2003. No study has been commenced so far by the Government for this purpose.
