There has been an increase in indigenous production
of fertilizers during the last three years.
Details of production of all fertilizers (Urea, DAP, NPK and SSP) for
the years 2008-09 to 2010-11 are given below: -

The
Government has notified on 4th September, 2008 a new investment
policy for urea sector based on IPP bench mark to attract the much required
investment in this sector. The New
Investment Policy aims at revamp, expansion, revival of existing urea units and
setting up of Greenfield/Brownfield projects.
The fertilizer units like IFFCO-Aonla-I &
II, IFFCO-Phulpur-I & II CFCL – Gadepan – I & II, NFCL-Kakinada – I & II and the
unit of Tata Chemical Limited – Babrala have started
giving additional production of urea after revamp. Further, RCF-Thal,
KRIBHCO-Hazira and NFL-Vijaipur
are undertaking revamp of their units.
The Government has also notified on 8th March, 2009 a policy
for conversion of FO/LSHS unit to gas based units. As per the policy, three units of NFL viz Nangal, Bhatinda
and Panipat and Bharuch
unit of GNVFC are being converted to gas based.
The funds required for these conversion projects from FO/LSHS to gas
based unit is being met from saving in energy & requisition of a special
fixed cost for five years.
