Freight Rate during busy Season
The rates at which Busy Season charge and Development Surcharge are levied have been marginally enhanced with effect from October 15, 2011.

Busy Season charge in case of Coal and Coke stands revised from 5 per cent to 10 per cent and in case of all other commodities, from 7 per cent to 10 per cent. The rate at which Development Surcharge is levied, has been revised from 2 per cent to 5 per cent.

The assessed impact of the increased rates on the prices of essential commodities is expected to be negligible; for example, the increase per kg per 1000 km is 05 paise in the case of Foodgrains and Fertilizers, 04 paise in the case of Salt and Sugar, 03 paise in the case of Onions and 06 paise in the case of Edible Oils.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways Shri K. H. Muniyappa in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today.
