Fund Released/Spent for Eradication of Child Labour
The Govt. is implementing National Child Labour Project (NCPL) Scheme in 266 districts in the country. As per report, there is no mention about India having largest number of child labourers in the world.

As per the Census, 2001 the number of working children in the age group of 5-14 was 1.26 crore out of which 19.27 lakh children in Uttar Pradesh which is about 15 per cent.

Child Labour is a complex socio-economic problem, which needs sustained efforts over a long period of time. Considering the nature and magnitude of the problem, Government is following a sequential approach of first covering children working in hazardour occupations/processes.

The Union Labour & Employment Minister Shri Mallikarjun Kharge gave this information in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today.
