NCC Team Lift Subroto Cup

NCC, West Bengal & Sikkim team have lifted the Subroto Cup Football trophy. In a scintillating final played at the Dr. Ambedkar Stadium here today, they defeated Mynkhen Christian Higher Secondary School, Meghalaya 2-1. Both teams were levelled at one each till half time. Two goals for NCC were scored by Bhaskar Seal and Biswanath Soren.

This year two NCC teams, i.e., West Bengal & Sikkim and North Eastern Region (comprising of all Seven N E States) participated in the tournament. NCC West Bengal and Sikkim Team had earlier defeated NCC team North East Region by two goals to nil in the semifinal while the Meghalaya School team defeated Army Boys Football Team to enter finals.

Vice Chief of Air Staff Air Marshall KK Nohwar gave away prizes to the winners and runners up teams. Star footballer Bhaichung Bhutia was the Guest of Honour on the occasion. The NCC team also won following prizes :

1. Best Player - Bishwajeet Haldar. He was given a prize of Honda Scooty and a cash award of Rs.20,000/-.

2. Best Goalkeeper - Kalyan Hembrom. He was given a cash award of Rs.20,000/-.

3. Best Coach - Dr. Bhupen Biswas from Kolkatta. He was given a cash award of Rs.25,000/-.

In addition the winning team got a cash award of Rs. 3 Lakhs. NCC had won this tournament in 2007 and it took them four years to win it again. Later in an impressive ceremony, the DG NCC Lt Gen P S Bhalla gave away Rs.10,000/- to each player of the NCC team West Bengal and Sikkim. Speaking on the occasion he said the boys had done NCC, their schools and their parents a great honour and wished them success in their careers.
