Improvement in Agricultural Growth
There is an improvement in the growth of the agriculture and allied sectors during the first half of 2010-11 as compared to the same period during 2009-10. As per the Estimates of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) compiled by CSO, MoSPI, the Agriculture and Allied Sectors registered a growth of 3.4 per cent at constant (2004-05) prices during first half of 2010-11 as compared to 1.4 percent growth registered during the same period in 2009-10.

The said growth in the agriculture GDP apparently does not have any direct link with soaring food prices. Price of a commodity depends upon various factors such as demand for and supply of the commodity, market arrivals at a point of time etc.

This information was given by Shri Arun Yadav, Minister of State for Agriculture in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.
