The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports has sanctioned cash awards worth Rs.22.57 crore to 286 sportspersons who have won medals for the country in the 19^th Commonwealth Games, 2010, held at New Delhi and 16^th Asian Games, 2010 held at Guangzhou.

            The cash awards have been given to these sportspersons under the Scheme of Special Awards to winners of medals in International Sports events. 

            The Award money for winners of medals in Commonwealth Games and Asian Games was doubled in October, 2010.  Under the Scheme, Gold medalists have been sanctioned cash awards of Rs. 20 lakh, silver medalists of Rs. 10 lakh and bronze medalists of Rs. 6 lakh.  Medal winners in team events have been given award money not less 50% of individual award money.

            Cash awards worth Rs. 5.10 crore has already been given to sportspersons who won gold medals for the country in 16^th Asian Games.
