Adequate Stocks of Rice in Central Pool
Adequate stocks of rice are available in the Central Pool for allocation under the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS).

As on 1.11.2010, 231.73 lakh tonne of rice was available in the Central Pool.

Apart from allocation of 475.32 lakh tonne of foodgrains under TPDS, Government has made the following allocations of foodgrains during 2010-11:

30.66 lakh tonne of foodgrains, including 13.80 lakh tonne of rice allocated in May for all accepted AAY, BPL and APL families under TPDS.

25.00 lakh tonne of foodgrains, including 17.11 lakh tonne of rice allocated for Below Poverty Line (BPL) families at BPL prices to all States/Union Territories in September, 2010 for distribution in six months.

This information was given by Prof. K.V. Thomas, Minister of State for Agriculture, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.
