FTAs in India during January to November, 2010 have registered a growth rate of 10.4% over the corresponding period in 2009.  FTAs in India observed increasing trend in 2007 and 2008.

In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha yesterday he said, however, during 2009, FTAs in India had registered a decline of 3.3% over 2008. This decline in 2009 may be due to various reasons including global slowdown, H1N1 pandemic, etc. The number of foreign tourist visits (FTVs), which is different than the FTAs, to different States and Union Territories, during the last three years are given in Annexure. This information for 2010 is not available.

He said, to attract more tourists to India, Ministry of Tourism has taken number of steps including advertising in India and abroad, participation in travel fairs, exhibitions, road shows, India evenings, seminars & workshops, publication of brochures, offering incentives to inbound travelers, and inviting media personalities, tour operators and opinion makers to visit the country under the Hospitality Programme of the Ministry. The Marketing Development Assistance (MDA) Scheme of the Ministry of Tourism has also been expanded so as to provide financial assistance to service providers for the promotion of domestic, medical & wellness and Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) Tourism in the country.
