Rajiv Awas Yojana in Tamil Nadu
The Minister of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Kumari Selja has said that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation is in the process of formulation of a new Scheme – Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY), which aims at providing support to States that are willing to provide property rights to slum dwellers.

In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today she said, the parameters of the Scheme including funding pattern, and time-schedule has been considered by the Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) on 27.10.2010 and this Ministry is now in the process of moving the Cabinet for approval of Scheme based on the observations of EFC.

She said, in the meantime the Government has launched the preparatory phase of RAY, that is, Slum free City Planning Scheme during 2009-10. Under this scheme an amount of Rs 480.14 lakhs has been released to Tamil Nadu for undertaking preparatory activities like slum survey, mapping of slums, developing slum information system, undertaking community mobilization, preparation of Slum-free City/State Slum-free Plans etc.
