NAFED Starts Commercial Procurement of Oilseeds
NAFED has commenced commercial procurement of Soyabean and Groundnut in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Gujarat.

The arrivals from fresh kharif crop of soyabean, groundnut, sunflower, sesame and niger seed are continuing in the mandies of all the producing States. As the market prices of Fair Average Quality (FAQ) stock of all the kharif oilseeds are ruling well above the MSPs so far, no purchases have been required under Price Support Scheme (PSS). However, NAFED is in readiness to procure the stock under the scheme, if the market prices of FAQ stock of a particular oilseed rule at or below the declared MSP.

NAFED has also procured around one lakh MT of Milling and Ball Copra under PSS of the value of around Rs. 500 crores in the producing states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka during 2009 and 2010 crop seasons. The purchases in Kerala, Tamil Nadu have been discontinued as market prices are ruling above the MSP. NAFED has not only helped the copra producers of main land but also of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep. NAFED has provided a regular market of copra which was non-existent earlier in these islands.

NAFED is a Central Nodal Agency for procurement of oilseeds through the cooperative network. Its entry in the mandies helps farmers to get better prices of their produce.
