Review of Sports Policy
There is no proposal to review the existing National Sports Policy – 2001, as the existing policy is sufficient to achieve the goals set of both mass participation in sports and promotion of excellence in sports. This was stated by Shri Pratik Prakashbapu Patil, Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports, in the Rajya Sabha today in a written reply to a question by Shri Shreegopal Vyas.

The Minister further stated that the Government provides funding to recognized National Sports Federations (NSFs) for development and promotion of their respective sports disciplines. The quantum of financial assistance depends upon the category of a particular sports discipline which is decided on the basis of their performance in Olympic/Asian Games/Commonwealth Games/World Championships. However, incentives given to sportspersons are applicable equally to all recognized sports disciplines.

Responsibilities for creation and upgradation of sports facilities is that of State Governments as ‘Sports’ is a State Subject. However, Sports Authority of India’s Regional Centres, located in various parts of the country, have state-of -the art sports facilities, which are renovated/upgraded from time to time, the Minister added.
