Jnnrum Projects for Guwahati
The Centre has sanctioned two projects one each on Solid Waste Management and Water Supply for the city of Guwahati under Urban Infrastructure & Governance (UIG) of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNRUM) with approved cost of Rs.3516.71 lakhs and Rs.28094.00 lakhs respectively with Additional Central Assistance (ACA) commitment of Rs.3165.04 lakhs and Rs.25284.60 lakhs. An amount of Rs.1582.52 lakhs and Rs.12642.30 lakhs has been released for the projects so far. This will help to check flooding of water in the city.

As per 2001 Census, the population of Guwahati was 8.20 lakhs which is classified as the Class-I city as per the census classification of citites/towns. The census classification of cities and towns is based on the population and does not have any relation with the levels of infrastructure and the civic problems due to flooding, etc.
