Rural Development Minister orders Inquiry into Alleged Irregularities in NREGS in Kotiyana, Gujarat Seeks Report by the End of This Month
Union Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Dr. C.P.Joshi has ordered an immediate inquiry into the alleged irregularities in wage payments under Mahatma Gandhi NREGA in Kotda village, Kotiyana district in Gujarat. The Minister has said that the issue should be examined by a National Level Monitor (NLM) and the report should be submitted by 30th November 2010. The directives comes close on the heels of media report citing allegations of misappropriation of funds related to wage payments under Mahatma Gandhi NREGA in Kotda village from Kotiyana district in Gujarat. It has been alleged that an e-literate paanwala had googled to stumble upon Rs. One crore scam which revealed that affluent NRIs, doctors, Government officials, teachers and well off farmers were shown as MGNREGA beneficiaries for their labour over the past three years .
