Slum Population in Mumbai and Delhi
Slum being a State subject, issues of slums including Survey, Compilation of data and preparation of Slum Development Plans etc., fall in the domain of State Governments concerned. As per Census of India -2001, the percentage of slum population in Delhi and in Greater Mumbai is 18.7% and 54.1% respectively.

Government of Maharashtra has reported that during last two years 14786 number of illegal hutments have been removed. A total of 1,22,625 slum hutments have also been removed from 191 slums under slum rehabilitation scheme implemented by Mumbai Slum Rehabilitation Authority to provide alternate housing to the slum dwellers in Mumbai City and Mumbai suburban district. Out of the 1,22,625 slum dwellers included in 191 SRA Schemes, 41,964 slum dwellers were provided rehabilitation tenements and the remaining 80661 tenements are under progress.
