Renovation of Ghats Along Ganga in West Bengal

The National Mission for Clean Ganga has sanctioned and completed 24 Ghats and Crematoria projects in West Bengal at a cost of Rs 180.16 Crores. The  above infrastructure was created in Kolkata, Bansberia, Howrah, Seerampore, Khardah, Naihati, Chandanagar, Baidyabati, Panihati, Kamarhati, Bally, Titagarh, Mahestala, North Barrackopore, Koonagar, Hooghly-Chinsura, Halishahar, Budge-Budge and Uttarpara-Kotrung municipalities. Further 7 more projects of Ghats & Crematoria under Entry Level Activities have been sanctioned which comprises renovation & development of 15 Ghats and 4 Electric Crematoria at a cost of Rs 48.47 crores.

Under Namami Gange programme, a total of 187 projects for various activities such as treatment of municipal sewage, treatment of industrial effluent, river surface cleaning, rural sanitation, ghats & crematoria works, afforestation, biodiversity, awareness creation & public outreach etc. have been sanctioned. 47 projects out of this have been completed so far. Cleaning of river is a continuous process, however, all efforts are being taken by Government of India to complete these projects by 2020.

This information was given by Union Minister of State for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation & Human Resource Development Dr. Satya Pal Singh in a written reply in Lok Sabha today.
