BRICS U – 17 Football Tournament Concludes with Colourful Ceremony
The BRICS U-17 Football Tournament came to an end today amongst great fanfare at Goa. The last day of the tournament saw a keenly contested match between Russia and China with Russia prevailing by two goals to one. The second match of the day, the finals of the tournament was contested by Brazil and South Africa. It was witnessed by a large crowd of spectators and dignitaries. Union Defence Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar was the Chief Guest, the Governor of Goa Smt. Mridula Sinha and Union Sports Minister Shri Vijay Goel were the guests of honour.
Brazil, in a spectacular display of dexterity dominated the match from the very beginning, winning the coveted BRICS U-17 Football trophy by five goals to one. Defence Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar presented the winning team with the Gold medals and the coveted BRICS U-17 Football Trophy. The Silver and the Bronze medals were presented to South Africa and Russia respectively by Union Youth Affairs & Sports Minister Shri Vijay Goel, and Goa Governor Smt. Mridula Sinha.
The finals culminated in a breathtaking display of dance and music in a colourful closing ceremony. The theme of the ceremony was based on Five elements- Five countries. The ceremony endeavoured to portray the essence of the collective power of the Five elements (Fire, Water, Air, earth & Space), symbolizing the collective strength of the BRICS nations.
