Indo – Myanmar Rail Network

Indian Railways have taken up two new line projects viz. (i) from Agartala in North Eastern Region of India to Akhaura in Bangladesh sanctioned in Rail Budget 2012-13 and (ii) Construction of Haldibari (in India) to Bangladesh International Border (3 Km) included in Rail Budget 2016-17 subject to requisite Government approvals. A feasibility study was done in 2005 by Indian through Rail India Tchnical & Economic Services Ltd. (RITES), a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) of Ministry of Railways, for a link from Jiribam in India to Kalay/Mandalay in Myanmar.

The Jiribam-Imphal section (125 Km) which falls within Indian territory has since been sanctioned and construction work taken up. Remaining portions from Imphal to Moreh (111 Km) within India and from Tamu to Kalay (128 Km) in Myanmar have not been sanctioned.
