New Deputy Chief for the Navy
Vice Admiral Jagjit Singh Bedi UYSM, AVSM, VSM took
over as Deputy Chief of Naval Staff at IHQ MoD (Navy)
today from Vice Admiral Sureesh Mehta. Vice Admiral
Bedi was earlier holding the appointment of Controller
of Warship Production and Acquisition (CWP&A).
On promotion to Flag Rank, Admiral Bedi was appointed
as the Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Policy & Plans)
at the Naval Headquarters and subsequently as the
Chief of Staff, Western Naval Command at Mumbai. He
also has the distinction of commanding the Western
Fleet.
Vice Admiral Bedi is alumnus of the National Defence
Academy and was commissioned in Jul 69. A specialist
in Communication and Electronic Warfare, he has held a
number of coveted appointments, both afloat and
ashore. His sea commands include command of seaward
defence boat Atul ocean going minesweeper Bedi,
Leander class frigate Udaygiri, guided missile
destroyer Ranvir, and the aircraft carrier Viraat. His
important ashore appointments include Chief Instructor
and Officer-in Charge of the Naval Signal School,
Directing Staff at College of Naval Warfare (CNW),
Commanding Officer of the Naval Academy at Goa and
Director of Naval Plans at Naval Headquarters.
The Admiral is an alumnus of the Royal Navy Staff
College, Greenwich and Naval War College, USA. He is a
recipient of the prestigious Uttam Yudh Seva Medal
(UYSM), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) and Vishisht
Seva Medal (VSM) for meritorious and distinguished
service.
