Ministry of Home
Affairs had issued a detailed advisory dated 4th September, 2009 on
crimes against women to all State Governments/UTs, wherein they have been
inter-alia, advised to set up exclusive ‘Crime against Women and Children’ desk
in each police station and Special Women police cells in the police stations
and all women police thana as needed.
As per data available with Bureau of
Police Research and Development (BPR&D), there were a total of 518 Women
Police Stations in the Country as on 01.01.2014. The State-wise details are
given below:
