Aims/Objectives of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy has said that the objective and functions of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship include evolving an appropriate skill development framework, removal of disconnect between the demand for and supply of skilled manpower through vocational and technical training, skill up-gradation, building of new skills, Mapping of existing skills and their certification etc.

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today Shri Rudy said, the following organizations come under the administrative control of this Ministry:

(i) National Skill Development Corporation

(ii) National Skill Development Agency

The National Skill Development Corporation of India aims to promote skill development by catalyzing creation of large, quality, for profit vocational institutions. NSDC provides funding to build scalable, for profit vocational training initiatives. National Skill Development Agency aims to co-ordinate and harmonise the skill development activities in the country.

The Ministry undertakes skill development programmes and training through the NSDC. NSDC in addition to providing funds to enterprises companies and organizations for skill training also has two schemes (i) UDAAN which is a specific industry initiatives for Jammu & Kashmir and (ii) STAR which is a National Skill Certification and Monetary Award scheme.
