Reduction of Troops in Jammu and Kashmir
Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) vide notification dated 9th May, 2007 had constituted an Expert Panel under the chairmanship of Defence Secretary to determine the need to relocate and reconfigure the security forces in Jammu & Kashmir, keeping in mind the security needs of the State.
The Expert Panel was also mandated, as a parallel exercise, to review the application of the Armed Forces (Jammu and Kashmir) Special Powers Act, 1990 to different areas of the State. It is understood that the Expert Panel submitted its draft report to the Prime Minister’s Office on 8th September, 2007.
This information was given by Defence Minister Shri Arun Jaitley in a written reply to Shri Tariq Hameed Karrain Lok Sabha today.
