Control of Fluorosis

As per Integrated Management Information System (IMIS) of the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, there are 14,133 habitations affected with fluoride in excess of the permissible limits in 19 States/UTs as on 1.4.2014.   The population at risk is about 117.7 lakhs.  State/UT-wise details of number of habitation / population affected by fluorosis is given below:

To address the problem of fluorosis, the Government of India started the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Fluorosis (NPPCF) in the 11th Five Year Plan.  So far, 105 districts have been covered under the programme.

 

The important components of the programme are surveillance of fluorosis in the community; capacity building in the form of training and manpower support; establishment of diagnostic facilities; management of fluorosis cases including treatment, surgery, rehabilitation; and   health education.  A year-wise & State-wise detail of funds released and utilized under NPPCF is given below:

Under the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Fluorosis (NPPCF), there is presently no proposal to set up fluorosis research institute in Nalgonda. 

 

The Health Minister was replying to a question in the Lok Sabha here today.
