Ninth Rashtriya Rifles Biennial Conference

The Ninth Biennial Conference of Rashtriya Rifles was conducted at Nagrota under the aegis of Rashtriya Rifles Directorate and Northern Command on 17-18 January 2014. The event was attended by Rashtriya Rifles Commanders and others senior officers of Northern Command. The Chief of Army Staff and the Northern Army Commander were also present. In his address to the officers of Rashtriya Rifles, the Army Chief lauded the stellar role played by the Force in restoring and maintaining peace in J&K and extolled its contribution towards development and nation building. He outlined the present and future security dynamics of the region. He exhorted the Rashtriya Rifles to continue their effort towards marginalising terrorists through clean and people friendly operations while following laws of the land. He further emphasised upon the need for avoiding collateral damage and ensuring the dignity and human rights of the people at all times.

The Rashtriya Rifles, even as it has conducted relentless operations to quell terrorism in the State, has concurrently undertaken people friendly activities and has, over the years achieved spectacular results in winning over people. The Force has assisted the locals of remote areas of the state by providing various kinds of aid and has given an impetus to development, growth, education and communal harmony though its multifarious civic action programmes.

In his closing remarks the Northern Army Commander thanked the State Administration, J&K Police and other agencies for their support and cooperation and urged the Rashtriya Rifles to continue the good work. Rich tributes were also paid to the martyrs of Rashtriya Rifles whose sacrifices have paved the way for peace in the region.
