I am Honoured to be at the Place of Satyajit Ray: Governor, West Bengal

The Governor, West Bengal, Dr C V Ananda Bose felt himself really honoured to be in Kolkata, the place of the film doyen Satyajit Ray and expressed his elation over the fact, while inaugurating the four-day Bengal International Film Festival today at the Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute (SRFTI) of the city. The four-day festival is going to celebrate the contributions of West Bengal in the Indian cinema, especially, those presented to the city film-buffs by the eminent directors like Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen, Rittick Ghatak,Tarun Majumder and the like. 

 

The festival is sponsored by an organisation named Bangla Abar. 

The renowned actors of the city like Smt Madhabi Mukherjee, Smt Sabitri Chatterjee, Shri Ranjit Mullick and theatre doyen Shri Rudraprasad Sengupta were honoured by the Institute along with the organisation Bangla Abar. 

 

Lifetime achievement Awards were presented to both the lady actors and to Shri Sengupta, while Shri Mullick was awarded for the outstanding contribution in Indian Cinema.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Bose mentioned Mrinal Sen's Ekdin Pratidin', Ray's Pather Panchali, Aparajito & Apur Sangsar- the creation of human documentary which was honoured in the Cannes as well as the creativity of Rittick Ghatak. 

The others who were present in the programme included the Director of SRFTI Shri Himangshu Sekhar Khatua and the Festival Director Smt Sanghamitra Chowdhury.

The Bureau of Outreach Communication, Kolkata also set up an exhibition on Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav in the Institute to honour the occasion.
