- Scheme for Economic Empowerment of DNT Communities (SEED) launched in 2022 for next 5 years with total outlay of Rs 200 crore
- Central Sector Scheme of Top Class School Education and Top Class College Education for OBC, EBC and DNT students being implemented by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment
A National Commission for De-notified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes (NCDNT) was constituted by Government of India in February 2014, inter-alia, to prepare a state-wise list of castes belonging to De-notified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes. NCDNT submitted its report on 08.01.2018. As per the report, a total of 1235 communities have been identified as De-notified and Nomadic Communities across the country, details of which may be seen at Annexure-I.
The Ministry has launched the scheme “ Scheme for Economic Empowerment of DNT Communities (SEED)” for welfare of DNT communities on 16.02.2022 with total outlay of Rs. 200 Crore for next five years, having following four components:-
- (i) To provide coaching of good quality for DNT candidates to enable them to appear in competitive examinations,
- To provide Health Insurance to them,
(iii) To facilitate livelihood initiative at community level; and
(iv) To provide financial assistance for construction of houses for members of these communities.
Besides, this Ministry is also implementing the following schemes for the welfare of DNT Communities:-
- Centrally sponsored scheme of Pre-Matric scholarships for OBC, EBC and DNT students
- Centrally sponsored scheme of Post-Matric scholarship for OBC, EBC and DNT students
- Central Sector Scheme of Top Class School Education for OBC, EBC and DNT students (New intervention).
- Central Sector Scheme of Top Class College Education for OBC, EBC and DNT Students. (New intervention).
A National Commission for De-notified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes (NCDNT) for welfare of Nomadic and De-notified tribes was constituted by Government of India in February 2014. NCDNT submitted its report on 08.01.2018. NCDNT has undertaken various activities which, inter-alia, includes preparation of list of De-notified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Communities, Interaction with community leaders and NGOs, field visits, analysis of grievance petitions and Memoranda received etc. The Commission also recommended several measures to be undertaken for welfare of these communities.
This information was given by the Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri Sushri Pratima Bhoumik in a written reply in Rajya Sabha, today.
