The State Forest Departments take up afforestation activities considering weather and soil condition. The Ministry has also through its advisories issued from time to time to State/UT Governments on afforestation programs/activities emphasised that the plantation of tree species should be on the basis of local needs, climatic and soil conditions. The National Mission for a Green India also encourages the plantation of mixed indigenous species along with grasses, herbs, shrubs and tree species.
This information was given by Shri Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Minister of State, Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change in Rajya Sabha today.
