IIT Kharagpur observed World Mental Health Day 2026 for the entire week and it concluded today, through a series of meaningful initiatives organised by SETU Counselling Centre, reaffirming the Institute's commitment to fostering a compassionate, inclusive and supportive campus environment.
Under the leadership and guidance of Prof. Suman Chakraborty, Director, IIT Kharagpur, the Institute continues to accord priority to students' mental health and holistic wellbeing.
Addressing the occasion, Prof. Arun Chakraborty, Dean of Student Wellbeing, emphasised that mental health is an integral part of everyday life and highlighted the importance of creating an environment where every student feels heard, understood and supported. A symbolic balloon release marked the occasion.
The programme featured 11 student-created short films exploring mental health beyond illness and diagnosis. SETU also presented its three-year comparative report, highlighting its progress in counselling, outreach and training.
In a significant outreach initiative, SETU undertook the distribution of personalised wellbeing cards to 16,500 students. The G-Sec Welfare Team worked tirelessly through the night, with support from the Institute's Security Section, to facilitate the distribution of cards across the campus.
Through these collective efforts, IIT Kharagpur reiterated its commitment to making mental wellbeing a shared institutional responsibility and building a campus where every mind matters.
