Access to timely financial assistance help students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds pursue higher education and research.
Ajay Kumar Ahirwar’s journey reflects the importance of fellowship support in reducing financial barriers and enabling continued academic and professional development.
Ajay Kumar Ahirwar, a 37-year-old Scheduled Caste beneficiary, is working as a Guest Faculty member while pursuing his academic and research aspirations. Coming from a financially constrained family background, he faced difficulties in managing educational expenses, study materials, fieldwork, research-related requirements and daily living costs. Balancing his academic responsibilities with his professional commitments as a Guest Faculty member also presented challenges. Despite these constraints, he remained committed to higher education and research.
The National Fellowship Scheme for Scheduled Caste Students (NFSC) provided crucial financial assistance to Shri Ahirwar, helping him continue his higher education and research without major financial interruptions. Under the scheme, he receives fellowship assistance of ₹31,000 per month, which supports his educational and research-related expenses and essential living costs.

The fellowship has helped reduce the financial pressure associated with higher education and enabled Shri Ahirwar to devote greater attention to his academic responsibilities and research activities. The support has also helped him balance his professional commitments with his continued academic pursuits.
At present, Shri Ajay Kumar Ahirwar is working as a Guest Faculty member and remains engaged in academic and research activities. The fellowship has contributed to improved financial stability and supported the continuity of his educational journey. His experience demonstrates how targeted financial assistance can help students from disadvantaged backgrounds pursue research and work towards their professional aspirations.

By easing financial constraints, the scheme helps eligible students pursue higher education and build opportunities for academic and professional advancement.
