Union Minister of State (I/C) for Law and Justice Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal Leads Cleanliness Initiative; Officers and Officials Participate in Collective Effort for Cleaner and Sustainable Environment.

As part of the Special Campaign 6 and Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026, the Department of Legal Affairs and the Legislative Department, Ministry of Law and Justice, organised a Shramdaan at the historic Safdarjung Tomb, New Delhi, on 01 October 2026. The initiative aimed at promoting the spirit of cleanliness, civic responsibility and community participation, while reinforcing the importance of collective efforts towards cleaner public places and promoting sustainable environment.
The Shramdaan was conducted under the leadership of Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Hon’ble Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice. Dr. Rajiv Mani, Secretary, Department of Legal Affairs and Legislative Department, along with senior officers and officials of both the Departments and learned Law Officers actively participated. The event witnessed active participation of the Panel Counsels of Union of India led by Shri Chetan Sharma, the Ld. ASG, Delhi High Court.
The participation of the Departments in the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign reflects the Government’s emphasis on Jan Bhagidari and on transforming cleanliness from a periodic activity into a sustained public habit. Through their active participation in the cleanliness drive, officers and officials reaffirmed that maintaining clean surroundings is a collective responsibility that requires the involvement of institutions as well as citizens.
The Shramdaan event provided an opportunity for officers and officials to participate directly in the cleanliness of historic tourist centre and to reinforce the message that Shramdaan is an expression of collective ownership, dignity of labour and responsible citizenship.
Speaking on the occasion, the Hon’ble Minister highlighted the importance of collective participation in the Swachhata movement and encouraged everyone to make cleanliness an integral part of everyday life. He emphasised that sustained efforts by individual and institutions are essential for creating cleaner surroundings and promoting a healthy and sustainable environment. He highlighted the coinciding of the event with the International Day of Older Persons Celebrated Globally on October 1, 2026 and felicitated the senior most person in the gathering who is a panel advocate for the Union of India at Delhi High Court.
Under the pillar of the campaign, Hon’ble Minister also presented Swachhata kits to the Safai Karamcharis of the Ministry recognising their efforts and value of work.
The Shramdaan was part of the Department’s continued participation in Swachhata Hi Seva 2026, reaffirming its commitment to cleanliness, sanitation, environmental awareness and responsible resource management. The campaign provides an important platform for government organisations and citizens to come together and contribute towards improving public spaces through collective action.
