ICAR-NRCO Pakyong Successfully Concludes Swachhata Hi Sewa Campaign 2026


ICAR-NRCO Pakyong Observes Swachhata Hi Sewa from Sept 17 to Oct 1; Focus on Sanitation, Waste Management, Cleanliness and Collective Shramdaan

ICAR-National Research Centre for Orchids (NRCO), Pakyong, Sikkim, has successfully concluded a series of activities under the "Swachhata Hi Sewa" (SHS) campaign from 17th September to 1st October 2026. The campaign was organized with the support of staff of ICAR-NRCO, 14 PIB media delegates from Bengaluru, Nagar Panchayat, Taxi Driver Association, Organic Market Groups, Rhenock and Rongli, and Pachey Panchayat, Pakyong District.

The programme commenced with a Swachhata Pledge Ceremony on 17th September 2026, in the presence of PIB Media Delegation on tour to Sikkim from Bengaluru.

As part of the campaign, the SHS team carried out daily cleanliness and awareness activities, including cleaning of office premises, residential quarters, farm areas, public places and guest houses; quiz competitions on 'Swachhata Hi Sewa' and 'Value Addition'; disposal of waste after Vishwakarma Puja; organic waste management; promotion of digital banners; waste segregation at residential quarters and office premises; home composting; waste-to-art initiatives; clean and green drives with plantation of fruit and ornamental plants for soil and water conservation; 'Kabaad Se Kala' with orchids; and display of banners at key locations.

A special drive, 'Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath – Collective Action for Voluntary Shramdaan', was also organized in collaboration with Nagar Panchayat, Taxi Driver Association, Organic Market Groups and Pachey Panchayat.

The three core pillars of the campaign were sanitation, environmental cleanliness and safe water for household use.

The programme was organized under the leadership of Dr. S.P. Das, Director, ICAR-NRCO, and Dr. L.C. De, SBA Nodal Officer, with active participation from scientists, administrative, finance and technical staff, supporting staff, Young Professionals, SRFs and other contractual staff of ICAR-NRCO, and with support from PIB officials, Nagar Panchayat, Taxi Driver Association, Organic Market Groups and Rhenock and Rongli, and Pachey Panchayat, Pakyong District, Sikkim.
