Hon’ble Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, inaugurated the Curtain Raiser for India Energy Week (IEW) 2027, setting the stage for the fifth edition of India’s flagship global energy event to be held in Kolkata from 28 to 31 January 2027.

During the curtain-raiser inauguration, Shri Hardeep Puri said, “IEW 2027 will bring new voices into these conversations. It reflects the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister that entrepreneurs, innovators and emerging players should have a greater role in shaping the future of energy. The Kolkata edition will therefore mark the next phase of India’s energy growth—not merely as a platform where India participates in global energy conversations, but as one where India increasingly helps shape them.

“IEW 2027 will also showcase India’s growing startup ecosystem, engineering capabilities and innovation potential, demonstrating how the country is building the capabilities required to address the energy challenges of the future,” added Mr. Singh.

Mr. Arvind Kumar, Director (Refineries), IndianOil, witnessed the event from Chandigarh, along with senior government officials, industry leaders, and other stakeholders. Underscoring the importance of global energy dialogue, Mr. Kumar said, “In just one year of launch of India Energy Week, it had already signalled India's intent to be heard on the global energy stage. Today that we are gathered here in Chandigarh, in parallel, is itself a statement — that India's energy conversation does not belong to one city or one stage. It belongs to every region that powers this nation.”

Professor Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, Director (Ad-Interim), Punjab Engineering College was also present on the occasion.

Since its launch in 2023, IEW has grown into a major global platform for the energy sector. The fifth edition of IEW will be held at the New Town Convention Centre, Kolkata, under the theme ‘Unlocking Innovation, Securing Energy, Shaping Tomorrow’. The event is expected to bring together over 75,000 energy professionals and 700+ international exhibitors, with a focus on emerging areas including hydrogen, biofuels, LNG, digitalisation, renewables, and pathways towards Net-Zero.

The choice of Kolkata further expands IEW’s geographical and strategic footprint, providing a platform to showcase the economic and industrial potential of eastern and northeastern India and its growing connectivity with neighbouring regions.

Innovation and young talent will remain an important focus of IEW 2027, with platforms such as Vasudha, Avinya and the Hackathon providing opportunities to present solutions to real-world energy challenges. FIPI’s 12 Student Chapters will also connect students and faculty with the technical sessions and exhibition, strengthening the bridge between academia and the energy industry.

Around 120 students of Punjab Engineering College, along with energy sector professionals participated enthusiastically in the programme.
