The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), a premier scientific and industrial research organisation under the Government of India, will celebrate its 85th  Foundation Day on 26 September 2026. To mark the occasion, CSIR laboratories located at the CSIR Campus, Taramani, Chennai, will host an Open Day on Monday, 28 September 2026.

CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre (CSIR-SERC), a National Laboratory under CSIR, is engaged in Research and Development, Consultancy and Advanced Testing Services in the field of Structural Engineering. The CSIR Campus at Taramani also houses the regional centres of other CSIR laboratories working in diverse areas, including electrochemistry (CSIR-CECRI), electronics (CSIR-CEERI), environment (CSIR-NEERI), metallurgy (CSIR-NML) and instrumentation (CSIR-CSIO).

The Open Day will provide an opportunity for  Students and the general public to visit the laboratories and gain first-hand exposure to their scientific and technological activities. Visitors will have an opportunity to learn about the research facilities, scientific expertise, ongoing application-oriented R&D projects and technical programmes being undertaken at the campus.

As part of the preparations for the Open Day,

Addressing the media, Dr. N. Anandavalli, Director, CSIR-SERC and Coordinating Director, CSIR Madras Complex, highlighted the diverse R&D activities being carried out by the CSIR laboratories at the campus. She outlined the major research facilities, ongoing application-oriented projects and technical programmes addressing a range of public, strategic, industrial and societal needs.

 

Dr. Anandavalli invited members of the public, along with representatives of the press and media, to visit the laboratories during the Open Day and gain first-hand exposure to the scientific and technological capabilities developed at the CSIR Campus.

The CSIR Foundation Day Open Day will be held on 28 September 2026 from 9.30 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. at the CSIR Campus, Taramani, Chennai – 600 113.
