The Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, launched the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 campaign today. Marking the formal commencement of the campaign, Shri Sanjay Lohiya, Secretary (DFS), led the Swachhata Pledge ceremony.

Reaffirming their collective commitment to cleanliness and public health, all organisations under the Department of Financial Services also undertook the Swachhata Pledge on 17.09.2026. The participating entities include Public Sector Banks (PSBs), Public Sector Insurance Companies (PSICs), Public Sector Financial Institutions (PSFIs), Regional Rural Banks (RRBs), State Level Bankers' Committees (SLBCs/UTLBCs), attached and subordinate offices, regulatory bodies including RBI, IRDAI and PFRDA, and Debts Recovery Tribunals (DRTs/DRATs), spanning their nationwide network of offices and branches.

The Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign is being observed across the country from 17th September to 2nd October 2026, guided by the central theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag, Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat”.

During the campaign, the Department will primarily focus on the following activities:

Transformation of Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) & Clean Public Spaces: An operational target has been set to identify, map and remediate over 5,000 Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs)—sites that are difficult to clean and demand concentrated sanitation intervention. Lead District Managers (LDMs) across the nation have been entrusted to coordinate with local administrations, volunteers and civic groups to transform at least 10 critical dirty spots, alongside intensive cleanup of public places, including bus stands, beaches and community toilet complexes.

SafaiMitra Suraksha Evam Samman Shivirs: Single-window welfare and preventive health check-up camps are being organised for all regular, contractual and outsourced sanitation workers (SafaiMitras) and their dependents. Organisations of DFS will be enrolling SafaiMitras into flagship financial inclusion and social security programmes, prominently the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), along with the distribution of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits and formal public felicitations.

Mass Cleanliness Drive — “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, EkSaath”: A nationwide cleanliness drive has been scheduled for 1st October 2026 at 8:00 AM, mobilising employees, bank functionaries, customers and civil society for one hour of collective public sanitation work.

Jan Bhagidari & Sustainable Waste Management: In accordance with the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules, 2026, all administrative and commercial premises of organisations are enforcing mandatory 4-way source segregation of waste (Dry, Wet, Hazardous, and E-waste). Institutions are establishing collection points for Reduce, Reuse & Recycle (RRR) centres and institutionalising Kabaad Se Jugaad (Waste to Wealth) and Kabaad Se Kala (Waste to Art) exhibits at major administrative buildings and training centres.

Plantation Drive ('Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam'): Branch networks and offices across the nation are actively carrying out tree plantation activities, planting saplings within and around their premises during the campaign duration.

All planned interventions, baseline data, and geotagged 'before-and-after' visual records are being systematically monitored and will be uploaded by designated Nodal Officers on the dedicated national portal swachhatahiseva.gov.in to ensure end-to-end accountability, transparency and public visibility.

Meetings with the field functionaries, appointment of Nodal Officers, and training for uploading the activities on the portal have been completed. Various meetings and visits are lined up during the campaign period to make it a grand success.
