Students from the Udumalai Galileo Science Club visited the CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre (CSIR-SERC), Chennai on 28 August 2026 as part of a science field visit organised in connection with the Science Festival conducted by the Club on the occasion of National Science Day.

  

A total of 120 participants, comprising 83 students and 37 teachers from Udumalai, Pollachi and the surrounding areas, participated in the field visit.

CSIR-SERC Scientists Dr. S. Maheswaran, Shri Sathish Kumar and Dr. Ayyappan interacted with the school students and shared insights into science, research and structural engineering.

  

The students visited various laboratories at CSIR-SERC and gained first-hand knowledge about the research activities being carried out by the scientists. They also actively interacted with the scientists, raised several questions and received explanations on various aspects of scientific research and its practical applications.

Sharing their experience of the field visit, the students said, “Science field visits of this kind create interest and enthusiasm among us towards science and research. Visiting the laboratories and interacting directly with scientists was a valuable and inspiring experience.”

The field visit was coordinated by Shri Kannabiran, Coordinator, Galileo Science Club, Udumalai.
