The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Field Office Chandel, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, organised a one-day Special Outreach Programme (SOP) on “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan” on the theme “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan – Viksit Bharat Ki Pehchaan” at Chothe Khunou Village, Chandel District, Manipur, on Friday.

Kh. Robert Chothe, Chief/Chairman, Chothe Khunou Village, Chandel; Y. Ibemcha, President, Chothe Khunou Women Society, Chandel; Y. Budhichandra Chothe, Lecturer, Langmeidong Hr. Sec. School; and Lv. John Kobari, Principal, Smart Life Academy, Chandel, attended the programme as special guests and resource person respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, Kh. Robert Chothe, spoke about the use and harmful effects of drugs. He emphasised the important role of parents, guardians, teachers and government agencies in preventing drug abuse and curbing the menace of drug addiction in society. Shri Lv. John Kobari, Principal, Smart Life Academy, Chandel, elaborated on the harmful effects of drug abuse and addiction. He stated that India’s geographical location and its proximity to major drug-producing and trafficking regions have made the issue a serious challenge. He further highlighted the vulnerability of the North-Eastern States, including Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, where drug abuse and addiction have emerged as major social concerns. He appealed to the participants to stay away from drugs and come forward collectively to combat drug abuse and its harmful impact on individuals, families and communities. He urged everyone to contribute towards bringing peace, development and prosperity to the nation by maintaining physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

Y. Budhichandra Chothe, Lecturer, Langmeidong Hr. Sec. School and Youth Advisor of the village, described drugs as a “silent killer” and spoke about their misuse and harmful effects, particularly among the youth. He urged young people never to use or become habituated to tobacco products and other harmful substances. He appreciated the organisers for conducting the awareness programme and called upon the participants to stand united in the fight against drug abuse and addiction for the welfare of the younger generation, families and communities.

As part of the awareness campaign under “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan”, a pledge was administered to the participants, emphasising that the fight against drug abuse must begin with individuals themselves and extend to families, friends and the wider community. A spot quiz competition was also organised as part of the programme. Prizes and certificates were distributed to the winners at the conclusion of the event.
