National Space Day: Made in India Chips Powering India’s Space Missions

On National Space Day, India celebrates not only its journey to the Moon and beyond, but also the indigenous technologies powering these missions. From satellites and launch vehicles to Chandrayaan-3 and Aditya-L1, Made in India chips are playing a vital role in India’s growing space programme._
Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, India’s journey towards technological self-reliance has gained new momentum. Indigenous capabilities in critical and advanced technologies are strengthening the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, including in India’s space sector.
Key Highlights
* Semiconductor Laboratory (SCL), Mohali develops flight-grade chips for satellites and launch vehicles, designed to withstand extreme space conditions.
* These include radiation-hardened chips, pressure, acceleration, temperature and acoustic sensors, electro-optical CCD/CMOS imagers, and custom ASICs.
* Chandrayaan-3’s lander carried an Indian-made camera chip, developed by SCL Mohali, supporting the lander’s imaging systems.
* SCL’s Vikram processor is used in satellite launch vehicles and rockets.
* Aditya-L1, India’s mission to study the Sun, uses radiation-hardened ADC chips developed by SCL.
* From the Moon to the Sun, indigenous semiconductor technologies are supporting India’s space missions.
*Significance*
India’s growing capability to develop critical space-grade semiconductor technologies is strengthening technological self-reliance in the space sector. As India takes on more ambitious missions, Made in India chips will play an increasingly important role in powering the country’s journey into space.
