As part of the National Space Day celebrations, the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Dehradun, organized a series of outreach activities centered on the theme "Space Technology for Viksit Bharat" on Thursday.

The event commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp by Dr. R.P. Singh, Director of IIRS Dehradun, Dr. Shefali Agarwal, Dean IIRS, and head PPEG Dr Harishankar.

Around 170 students from Classes 9 to 12, representing 20 schools across Dehradun, actively took part in the event. The outreach program featured engaging competitions, including speech, painting, and quiz contests. Director Dr. R.P. Singh distributed prizes to the winning participants across these categories.

The program was successfully conducted by Senior Scientists Richa Sharma and Prasoon Kumar Gupta, with overall event coordination managed by Dr. Poonam Seth Tiwari.

On August 23, 2023, India achieved a landmark feat in space exploration by completing a safe, precise soft landing of the "Vikram" lander near the lunar south pole and deploying the "Pragyan" rover on the Moon's surface. To honor this momentous achievement, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi declared August 23 as "National Space Day", to be observed annually across the country.
