The Income Tax Department, Mumbai, has inducted 10 accomplished sportspersons from Haryana under the sports quota, reaffirming its commitment to recognising sporting excellence and providing accomplished athletes an opportunity to serve the nation while continuing to pursue their sporting careers.

The appointment letters were formally handed over to the newly inducted sportspersons by the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Mumbai, Shri Alok Kumar, at Aayakar Bhawan, Mumbai, on August 12, 2026.

Applications were invited vide Notification dated January 7, 2026, for 97 vacancies. The recruitment process received an overwhelming response, with 3,595 applications from sportspersons representing various sporting disciplines across the country. Following rigorous scrutiny and evaluation in accordance with the prescribed criteria, 97 candidates were selected on merit.

A significant feature of the recruitment is that more than 80 per cent of the selected sportspersons have represented or participated at the international level, reflecting the exceptional sporting calibre of those joining the Department.

Among the 97 selected candidates, the 10 sportspersons from Haryana have distinguished themselves at national and international sporting events across disciplines including yogasana, volleyball, football, kabaddi, athletics and table tennis.

*Abhishek, 24, Tax Assistant – Yogasana:*
Abhishek has achieved notable success at the international level, winning two Gold Medals at the 1st World Yogasana Sports Championship 2026 in Ahmedabad. He also won two Gold Medals at the 2nd Asian Yogasana Sports Championship 2025 in New Delhi.

*Ajay Kumar, 21, Tax Assistant – Volleyball:*
Ajay Kumar represented India at the 21st Asian Men’s U20 Volleyball Championship in Riffa, Bahrain, where he won a Silver Medal. He also secured a Silver Medal at the 25th Youth National Volleyball Championship in Panna, Madhya Pradesh.

*Aman, 19, Multi Tasking Staff – Football:*
Aman was part of the Indian team that won the Gold Medal at the SAFF U-17 Championship 2022 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. He also represented India in the AFC U-17 Asian Cup Qualifiers 2023 in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, where India qualified for the AFC U-17 Asian Cup.

*Ashish, 20, Multi Tasking Staff – Kabaddi:*
Ashish represented India at the 2nd Junior World Kabaddi Championship 2023, where the Indian team won the Gold Medal. He subsequently represented Haryana and secured a Bronze Medal in the Men’s Team Event at the 38th National Games 2025.

*Nisha, 21, Tax Assistant – Football:*
Nisha represented India at the SAFF Championship 2022 in Jamshedpur, where India secured first place and the Gold Medal. She also represented India at the SAFF Championship 2021 in Dhaka, Bangladesh, winning the Silver Medal.

*Raman, 20, Multi Tasking Staff – Athletics:*
Raman secured a Silver Medal at the South Asian Junior Athletics Championship 2024 in Chennai. He also won a Silver Medal at the 38th National Junior Athletics Championship 2023 in Coimbatore.

*Ritu Devi, 21, Multi Tasking Staff – Football:*
Ritu Devi represented India at the SAFF U-18 Women’s Championship 2022, where the Indian team emerged champions. She also represented Guru Jambheshwar University of Science & Technology, Hisar, which won the All India Inter-University Women’s Football Championship 2023–24.

*Rohit Kumar, 20, Multi Tasking Staff – Kabaddi:*
Rohit Kumar represented India at the 2nd Junior World Kabaddi Championship 2023, where the team won the Gold Medal. He also represented Haryana, which secured first position at the 50th Junior National Kabaddi Championship 2025.

*Upender, 23, Multi Tasking Staff – Kabaddi:*
Upender represented Haryana at the national level, winning the Gold Medal at the 70th Senior National Kabaddi Championship 2024 in Maharashtra. He also won a Bronze Medal at the 38th National Games 2025 in Uttarakhand.

*Suhana Saini, 19, Tax Assistant – Table Tennis:*
Suhana Saini secured a Gold Medal in Mixed Doubles at the Senior National Table Tennis Championships 2025. She also won a Bronze Medal in the Team Event at the World Youth Table Tennis Championships 2023 in Slovenia.

*Income Tax Department Reaffirms Support for Sporting Careers*

Speaking on the occasion, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Mumbai, Shri Alok Kumar, congratulated the newly inducted sportspersons and assured them that they would have every opportunity to continue their sports practice and participate in competitions alongside their responsibilities in the Department.

He said that the Income Tax Department, Mumbai, expects the newly inducted sportspersons to bring to public service the same discipline, determination, dedication and excellence that have distinguished their sporting careers.

The induction reflects the Government’s broader recognition of the contribution of sportspersons to the nation and provides accomplished athletes with a platform to pursue a career in public service while continuing to excel in their respective sporting disciplines.

As part of the induction programme, the newly recruited sportspersons were also briefed on their roles and responsibilities, service conditions and applicable Government rules, enabling them to begin their professional journey with the Department with a clear understanding of their duties.

The induction of these 10 talented sportspersons from Haryana is expected to further strengthen the sporting culture within the Income Tax Department and inspire young athletes to pursue both sporting excellence and public service.
