Responding swiftly to the flood situation caused by incessant rainfall across parts of Gujarat and the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli, the Indian Army, under the aegis of Southern Command, launched Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations on the evening of 23 July 2026. Over the past three days, Relief and Rescue Columns, including Engineer and Medical teams, operated in close coordination with the NDRF, SDRF, State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), civil administration and other agencies to provide timely assistance to affected communities.

The Army deployed multiple Relief and Rescue Columns across Navsari, Valsad, Vapi, Silvassa and flood affected areas of Ahmedabad, including Dholka and Rajoda, while additional columns remained on standby to respond to emerging contingencies.

Throughout the operation, troops undertook rescue missions in inundated and inaccessible areas, safely evacuating over 790 stranded civilians. Medical teams provided immediate healthcare to those in need, while relief teams distributed food, drinking water and other essential supplies to affected residents. Army personnel also assisted the civil administration in restoring normalcy in the affected areas.

Beyond the statistics, the operation witnessed numerous inspiring stories of courage, resilience and selfless service. Working shoulder-to-shoulder with disaster response agencies, civil authorities and dedicated civilian volunteers, Army personnel carried out rescues under extremely challenging conditions, bringing hope and timely assistance to those stranded. The operation stands as a shining example of Military-Civil Fusion, reflecting years of joint planning, coordination and preparedness translated into effective action on the ground.

The successful conduct of the operations once again underscores the Indian Army's unwavering commitment to the Nation and its people. Ever prepared to respond in times of crisis, the Indian Army remains steadfast in extending humanitarian assistance whenever called upon.
