Major General Varun Malhotra assumed command of the Headquarters Uttar Maharashtra and Gujarat Sub Area on July 10, 2026. Commissioned into the Corps of Engineers (Bengal Sappers) in 1994, he has an illustrious career spanning over three decades in the Indian Army.

During his service, Major General Malhotra has held varied command, instructional and staff appointments at field formations. He possesses extensive experience in operations, administrative management, communication and logistics planning. He has also served as an instructor at the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington (Tamil Nadu).

After assuming command, the General Officer interacted with officers and all ranks. He complimented them for their professionalism and exhorted all personnel to maintain the highest standards of operational preparedness while remaining vigilant to emerging security challenges.

The Headquarters Uttar Maharashtra and Gujarat Sub Area is expected to benefit from his vast experience as it continues to focus on infrastructure development, operational preparedness and organisational excellence.
