The Self-Enumeration Portal for Phase I of Census 2027, India's first digital census, will be open in Kerala from 6:00 a.m. on June 16, 2026, said Shri K. Biju, Secretary of the General Administration Department, Government of Kerala, and State Nodal Officer (Census).

Speaking at a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram regarding Phase I of the Census in Kerala, Shri Biju clarified that respondents must provide information based on their current place of residence during the first phase, which includes house listing and housing census operations. People can directly submit their household information through the self-enumeration portal at https://se.census.gov.in/. Students and employees residing away from their permanent homes for education or work should report the location where they are currently staying. Likewise, tenants should provide details of the rented house in which they presently reside.

To complete self-enumeration, individuals must log in to the portal using their mobile number and other required details. After all questions are completed, a Self-Enumeration ID (SEID) will be generated and sent to the registered mobile number. This SEID must be shared with the enumerator during the field visit. After verifying the self-reported information, the enumerator will upload the data to the Census database.

Shri Biju noted that even if residents are unable to complete self-enumeration, enumerators will collect the required information through field visits between July 1 and July 30. He added that self-enumeration is expected to make the census process more efficient. Emphasizing the importance of the exercise, he said that the Census plays a crucial role in national development and resource allocation.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. T. Mithra, Director of Census Operations and Chief Principal Census Officer, said that individual information collected during the Census would not be made public. Only aggregated data would be released, she said, assuring citizens that the information provided would remain secure and that privacy would be protected. Dr. Mithra also stated that the training of enumerators would be completed by June 23. Each enumerator has been assigned approximately 150 to 200 households. Data collection will be carried out through a mobile application available in 16 languages.

Dr. Mithra further informed that a web-based portal named the Census Management and Monitoring System (CMMS) will be used to manage and monitor various activities related to Census 2027. For queries related to Census information, a toll-free helpline number, 1855, has been established.

Also present at the press conference were Thiruvananthapuram District Collector Anu Kumari, IAS, and Dr. Athira Thampi, Deputy Director of the Press Information Bureau, Thiruvananthapuram.
