ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Churachandpur, under the administrative control of ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya, has been actively implementing the month-long nationwide “Khet Bachao Abhiyan” campaign from 1–30 June 2026 across various villages of Churachandpur district, Manipur. Organized in collaboration with the District Agriculture Office, line departments, and other stakeholders, the campaign aims to promote sustainable soil health management and balanced nutrient use for enhancing agricultural productivity and ensuring long-term sustainability of farming systems. During the current phase of the campaign, a series of awareness programmes and field demonstrations were conducted to disseminate scientific knowledge on soil and nutrient management. Major activities included demonstrations on the use of Leaf Colour Charts (LCC) for efficient nitrogen management, balanced and judicious fertilizer application, scientific soil sampling and soil testing procedures, green manuring, vermicomposting, and agricultural liming. Farmers were sensitized on the importance of integrated nutrient management practices for maintaining soil fertility and improving crop productivity. Several inputs including seasonal vegetable seed, LCC kits, lime etc and extension literatures were also distributed throughout the campaign. The campaign also focused on creating awareness regarding major pest and disease management strategies. Experts highlighted the harmful effects of indiscriminate use of chemical pesticides and encouraged farmers to adopt eco-friendly and sustainable crop protection practices to safeguard both environmental and human health. The activities were coordinated by different teams of ICAR-KVK Churachandpur under the leadership of Dr. L. Somendro Singh, Dr. N. Soranganba, Dr. N. Johnson Singh, Bs. Hmannihring Anal, L. Basil, and Manngaihkim, with active support from ICAR scientists and officials from line departments, and other stakeholders. The successful implementation of the campaign underscores the commitment of ICAR-KVK Churachandpur towards strengthening farmers’ capacities in soil health conservation, balanced fertilizer use, and sustainable agricultural practices, thereby contributing to enhanced farm productivity and resilience.
