Pakyong, June 10, 2026:

ICAR-National Research Centre for Orchids (ICAR-NRCO), Pakyong, successfully organized “Khet Bachao Abhiyan (KBA)” and NEH Sapling Distribution Programme for farmers of Linkey village, Pakyong district, Sikkim, on June 10, 2026.

The KBA team conducted training-cum-awareness and demonstration sessions on soil and water conservation measures, use of indigenous crops, promotion of organic farming, balanced use of fertilizers, crop planning to reduce fertilizer dependency, scientific technology-based sustainable farming, crop rotation, green manuring, intercropping and other organic substitutes, preparation of compost and organic nutrient solutions, their application, and Integrated Nutrient Management.

A sapling distribution programme under the ICAR NEH scheme, sponsored by ICAR-IIHR, Bangalore, was also organized at the venue. A total of 25 farmers/beneficiaries from Linkey village received grafted fruit plants of avocado and orange under the NEH distribution programme.

The nationwide “Khet Bachao Abhiyan” aims to create awareness on soil testing-based judicious and balanced use of fertilizers and other agricultural inputs including green manures, organic and bio-products, reducing chemical fertilizer use and improving soil health. The campaign is being conducted from June 1 to 30, 2026, across all districts of the country through 1650+ field teams and 500+ special campaign teams with ICAR scientists.

The programme was organized under the guidance of Dr. S.P. Das, Director, ICAR-NRCO, along with KBA Nodal Officer Dr. L. C. De, NEH Nodal Officer Dr. Kalaivanan, Co-Nodal Officer Dr. Suman Natta, Dr. Chandan Gowda H., Dr. Nikhila V.A., Dr. T. Rihne and other technical staff from ICAR-NRCO, Pakyong.

The initiative drew positive response from the farmers and beneficiaries of Linkey village, Pakyong district. ICAR-NRCO remains committed to promoting sustainable agriculture and supporting farmers through scientific interventions and capacity building programmes.
