In an era of rapid development and expanding modern infrastructure, environmental conservation has become more important than ever. Taking this vision forward, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Regional Office Dehradun, organized a large-scale plantation drive under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign on the occasion of World Environment Day.
As part of the initiative, a total of 570 saplings were planted at various locations by the project implementation units (PIUs) under Regional Office Dehradun, including PIU Vasant Vihar, Najibabad, Rudrapur and Roorkee. Plantation activities were carried out at different locations including Gram Palwal, Jhajra Chowk, Dehradun, where officers, employees and staff members from 13 toll plazas under RO Dehradun actively participated and spread the message of environmental conservation.
National highways today are not just about better connectivity and smoother travel experiences; they are also emerging as symbols of balanced development and environmental responsibility. With this vision, NHAI is continuously promoting the development of green, safe and environment-friendly highways across the country.
Under the “Meri LiFE” (Lifestyle for Environment) initiative, special emphasis is being laid on plantation drives, development of green belts, biodiversity conservation and adoption of eco-friendly construction practices. NHAI’s efforts are focused on ensuring that infrastructure development progresses alongside environmental sustainability and ecological balance.
The plantation drive organized on World Environment Day reflected a collective commitment towards environmental responsibility and securing a greener future for the coming generations. The 570 saplings planted during the campaign are expected to contribute towards cleaner air, greener surroundings and a healthier environment in the years to come.
On the occasion, Regional Officer, Uttarakhand, Shri Dinesh Kumar Chaturvedi stated that along with the development of national highways, environmental conservation also remains one of NHAI’s key priorities. He added that campaigns like “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” not only encourage environmental awareness but also create an emotional connection between society and nature.
