ICAR-NRCO, Pakyong, successfully organized the “Khet Bachao Abhiyan (KBA)” and NEH seed distribution programme with farmers of Dugalakha village, Pakyong district, Sikkim, on 4th June 2026.

The KBA team conducted training and awareness sessions on promoting organic farming, balanced use of fertilizers, crop planning to reduce fertilizer dependency, promotion of science-based sustainable farming, green manuring and other organic substitutes, preparation of compost, organic nutrient solutions and their application, and Integrated Nutrient Management with local farmers.

During the programme, a seed distribution drive under the ICAR-NEH scheme, sponsored by ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru, was organized at the same venue. A total of 25 farmers and beneficiaries from Dugalakha village received vegetable and fruit seed kits containing brinjal, watermelon, tomato, chilli, cowpea, ridge gourd, bottle gourd, amaranthus, and peas under the NEH distribution programme.

The main objective of this campaign is to create awareness on soil-test-based judicious and balanced use of fertilizers and other agricultural inputs, including green manures and organic and bio-products, reduce the use of chemical fertilizers, and improve soil health by organizing training and demonstrations on farmers’ fields from 1st to 30th June 2026 across all districts of the country through 1650+ field teams and 500+ special campaign teams with ICAR scientists.

The programme was organized under the guidance of Dr. S.P. Das, Director, ICAR-NRCO, along with NEH nodal officer Dr. Kalaivanan, KBA nodal officer Dr. L.C. De, Co-Nodal Officer Dr. Chandan Gowda H., Dr. Suman Natta, and other technical staff from ICAR-NRCO, Pakyong. The programme received a positive response from the farmers and beneficiaries of Dugalakha village, Pakyong district, who appreciated the initiative taken by ICAR.
