The Office of the Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner (Central), Kolkata, organised a workshop on the Four New Labour Codes for employers and contractors across the Kolkata region, today, bringing together representatives from major public sector undertakings, industries and contracting agencies for detailed discussions on the evolving labour law framework.
The workshop commenced with an address by Smt. Sonal Mishra, Chief Labour Commissioner (Central), who underlined the Government's commitment towards compliance facilitation and stakeholder engagement. She noted that the labour law reforms are aimed at creating a transparent, simplified and business-friendly compliance ecosystem while ensuring that workers' rights, welfare and social security protections remain fully safeguarded.
A special session was conducted by Shri Kshitij Jain, Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner (Central), Kolkata, who explained the key provisions of all four labour codes and addressed queries raised by participants. The discussions focused on the objectives of the reforms, including consolidation of multiple labour laws, simplification of compliance procedures and reduction of regulatory burden on establishments.
Particular focus was laid on the provisions relating to single registration, single licence and streamlined return filing mechanisms under the new framework. Participants were informed about the shift from a system involving multiple registrations and licences towards a more integrated compliance structure designed to improve operational efficiency without compromising worker welfare.
