BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS(BIS) AHMEDABAD RAIDS ON MANUFACTURING UNIT OF PACKAGED DRINKING WATER

An Enforcement raid was carried out by team comprising of officers from the Bureau of Indian Standards(BIS), Ahmedabad on the premises of M/s Banas Beverages, Khata No 719, S.No. 140/001 Opp. Vrajdham- 3 Society, Siddhpur Road, Patan, Gujarat on 29.05.2026 based on the intelligence gathered that the unit is involved in the production and sale of ISI Marked Packaged Drinking Water without having valid licence from BIS. During the operation, a total of 3100 cartons, having 50000 bottles of 01 litre and 500 ml filled with packaged drinking water and Stickers and labels with ISI Mark were seized.

Action is being initiated against the offender for using BIS Standard Mark without prior permission of BIS, under violation of Section 17 of BIS Act 2016. The offence is punishable by imprisonment upto two years or a fine not less than of Rs. 2,00,000/- or both and not less than Rs. 5 Lakhs for subsequent contraventions, which may extend upto ten times the value of the goods.

Unscrupulous manufacturers manufacture such products without a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, in order to deceive the public. Bureau of Indian Standards has been carrying out a series of raids, as and when information about misuse if received/collected to protect the common consumer from such deception and possible safety hazards which results from usage of such materials. Any body who has information about misuse of BIS Standard Mark or information about the manufacturers of the products covered under mandatory certification, may write to the Head, Bureau of Indian Standards, Ahmedabad Branch Office, Third Floor, Navjivan Amrut Jayanti Bhavan, Behind Gujarat Vidyapith, Off Ashram Road, Ahmedabad 380014( Telephone 079-27540314).
